In my last blog I wrote about why I am going to write more this year. Now I want to tell you a little about who I am and why I am here. I have been working for close to three decades. I was a Child Protective Service Worker, a trainer, a personnel manager, an attorney, and a therapist all before I became a writer. I have done a lot of stuff, and for a long time I thought I had wasted some of my career.
Now that I am older I see how everything has come together to help me become who I am today. I did not waste a minute. Every step was necessary-in the same way you cannot complete a puzzle without every piece. And just like a puzzle you often cannot make out the whole picture early on. You have to trust that whoever handed you the box gave you everything you needed to make that picture whole.
This is how I feel about my writing career. For the longest time I wanted to write. I was called to write. I could feel it in my being, but I was afraid to answer the call. I thought in some ways it was arrogant to write. Who really would be interested in what I have to say?
Why do we do this to ourselves? You are worthy of having your story told. Yes, you. If you are reading this I am talking to you. You are magnificent. Don’t discount yourself or your story. But, unfortunately, this is exactly what I did for many many years. I wanted to write from the time I was in my 20’s, but really didn’t start writing till two decades later. Don’t wait. Tell your story. There are so many reasons why you should.
I started telling my story because it was therapeutic for me. It helped me so much to talk about my journey. You do not have to be an Olympic athlete, or have lost half your size, or be a celebrity for your story to be interesting to someone else. I never write with the words “best seller” in mind. I write for me and I know that my story will resonate with a base of people who will become supportive of my work and will love what I have to add to this world.
What is your story? I would love to talk to you about your journey too. Send me a message at info@makeawaymedia.com and let’s talk about how the Make A Way Mindset can help you bring your story to life.
