Why I Wrote Hope In the Nick of Time—And Why You’ll Want a Copy for Everyone You Know
On September 30, 2025, my newest children’s book Hope In the Nick of Time will officially be out in the world. And I couldn’t be more excited—or more grateful. This book is close to my heart for so many reasons, and if you’ve ever wondered why I write the books I do, this story sums it up perfectly.
Why I Write Books Like This
I write books that shine a light on the power of hope, representation, and healing—especially for children who don’t often see themselves in the pages of stories. Hope In the Nick of Time is the third book in my “In the Nick of Time” series, and in this one, our beloved character Nick returns to take on one of the hardest challenges yet: how to keep hope alive when the world feels chaotic or dark.
This story tackles the very real issue of homelessness—but it does so through a lens of kindness, compassion, and, of course, hope. Nick is a young Black boy with a big heart, and in this book, he discovers what it means to give, to care, and to believe in the power of small acts of love. As always, I want every child who reads this to walk away feeling like their actions matter, their feelings matter, and their dreams are possible.
Why I Wrote Hope In the Nick of Time
I want you to know clearly the reason I wrote this book. It is because I’ve seen firsthand—through my work as a therapist, an author, and a mother—that children are carrying heavy things. And in a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming, they need stories that remind them that they can make a difference. They need stories that tell the truth but also show a path forward. They need stories that offer hope.
The Power of Representation and Empathy I believe Hope In the Nick of Time is one of those stories. It’s not just a holiday book. It’s not just a book about kindness. It’s a book that plants seeds in the hearts of children (and grown-ups!) about how powerful one person can be when they choose love over fear and hope over despair.
Why You Should Buy This Book for Everyone You Know This is why I’m asking you to consider buying a copy for your own home—and one for every child, teacher, school counselor, and therapist you know. Stories like this matter. They help build empathy. They create bridges. They remind us all that change is possible, and that it often begins with one brave, kind child.
If you believe in books that empower children, promote representation, and teach real-life values in a heartfelt and meaningful way, Hope In the Nick of Time belongs in your collection.
